What Students and Parents Say
Steph has helped me through thick and thin, and although I’ve only known her for two years I feel that I could trust her with things I couldn’t even trust myself with. She takes on so much and so often she does not receive the gratitude she deserves. I hope this inspires her, as she has inspired me, to continue being her truest kind strong self, as she so often accepts the bare minimum in return. She has helped us all across classes and years and has regularly taken on more work and classes than any one person should, but she does it, and anytime that strength slips she takes it in her stride.
Stephanie Smart is hands down one of the best educators that I have ever had the pleasure of being taught by. Her dedication to her students surpasses excellence, her dedication to her teaching craft is admirable, and she is highly adaptable considering feedback given by students and updating how she delivers information. I will never stop singing the praises of Stephanie Smart, that woman deserves a medal.
We’d like to thank you very much for all the help you’ve given [our daughter] recently. Her confidence with narrative language and grammar has really come on leaps and bounds since you started helping her and she will tell you that your help has been invaluable. We’ve noticed a big difference in the standard of her formal communications (re. job applications etc.) and she seemed quite pleased with how she did in her exam papers so here’s hoping.
You’ve been a huge help so thanks so much again.
Steph is a lecturer who supports students studying Drama at UHI Inverness. She is responsive to the student's needs, encourages the development of ideas, and supports students in their learning assignments to be the best they can be. She is approachable and will help with any questions you may have. I have seen Steph over the last two years, also ensuring students' mental wellbeing needs are being met and she is passionate about her subjects including the promotion of arts and wellbeing.
Steph has been instrumental in my learning and I was lucky to have her for all four years of my student journey. She is both knowledgeable and empathetic and made every class something to look forward to with the right blend of in depth analysis and kind charisma that makes her perfect not only as a lecturer and a leader, but as a friend.
The nickname “Super Steph” couldn’t be more fitting. Throughout three years of college and uni, she has regularly gone above and beyond to encourage me and help me develop. On top of this, Steph is also one of the most genuine people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. The chance to work with her is an opportunity to not be missed.
Steph is such an amazing teacher! She's so patient and understanding, totally accommodating, and every week pushes me to be better, and dive really deep into everything we're working on. I can see myself improving week by week and don't feel judged or pressured to do anything. 10/10 would recommend and if anyone is even slightly interested in doing acting for the first time or for the hundredth time, I'd always recommend Steph and what she does.
Our student/teacher relationship has always been one that I have cherished as I have felt respected, supported and encouraged throughout. I have always felt comfortable reaching out to you for help if i needed it, you have always made sure that, that is one of your key priorities when teaching (I've both experienced it and been witness to it in your classes). You create a healthy working relationship by manufacturing an atmosphere that encourages learning, more specifically student led learning; I've been encouraged to ask questions, to make mistakes and learn why I made them and to express and develop my own practice. I enjoy the way in which you express any constructive criticism as I've never felt put down or silly - I've only ever been encouraged that I can do it/encouraged to believe in myself!
